The Oath Keepers are a violent pro-Trump milita that played a central role in the Capitol Insurrection. And their role in planning it started long before January 6th.
 

“We aren’t getting through this without a civil war, too late for that. Prepare your mind. body. Spirit.” - Oath Keepers Founder Stewart Rhodes.

The statement above was given in November two days after the election. In meetings and chat rooms, Stewart Rhodes spent the proceeding month organizing and preparing his militia to prevent a peaceful transition of power on January 6th.

His plan went roughly like this:
  1. Incite followers to come to Washington, DC on January 6th for a “bloody and desperate fight.”
  2. Spend $15,500 on an arsenal of firearms and military equipment to be stashed outside of D.C. and picked up once the Capitol was controlled.
  3. On the day of the insurrection, split the militia into teams to hunt down members of Congress and fight Capitol Police.

Friend, there is a term to describe Rhodes’ carefully executed plan for January 6th. It's called seditious conspiracy and Stewart Rhodes and 10 other members of the Oath Keepers are currently facing charges for it.

 

We’re lucky Rhodes wasn’t able to turn January 6th more deadly. But if Rhodes and his followers don’t get convicted of sedition, then our democracy will be overun by more empowered insurrectionists. Sign our petition demanding that Rhodes and the Oath Keepers face justice for their attempt to violently overthrow our democracy.
