The Clean Energy Corps is here!
|
Did you hear the news, John?
President Biden’s Energy Department recently announced the formation of the Clean Energy Corps!
The initiative will pursue projects aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean energy across the United States. The Clean Energy Corps will include 1,000 new employees across more than a dozen offices, marking the largest expansion of the Department of Energy’s workforce since its establishment in 1977. There is a new hiring portal that allows applicants to indicate specific areas of interest, such as public policy, energy finance, and legislative affairs.
How did we get here? The bi-partisan infrastructure legislation signed by President Biden in November, which provided $62B to the Department of Energy, is making this new exciting Clean Energy Corps work possible. The bill also allocated $20 billion for clean energy demonstration projects in areas such as clean hydrogen, carbon capture, energy storage and small modular reactors. The department used that funding to establish an Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations last December.
As a supporter of Green For All, you understand the urgency of tackling climate change, and that one way to solve pollution and poverty at the same time is through good green jobs. That’s why we’re so excited about the Clean Energy Corps, but our work doesn’t stop there.
For one, we can’t lose sight of our ambitious goals to get the Build Back Better Act across the finish line. The bill, which is currently stalled in the Senate, includes the creation of a Civilian Climate Corps that would create good-paying union jobs for over 300,000 people. This new diverse workforce would conserve our public lands, bolster community resilience, and address the changing climate.
Now it’s up to the Senate to pass the Build Back Better Act and deliver these long-overdue solutions to the American people.
