For nearly two years since March 2020, our State Capitol building has been closed to the public. When government leaders said that Hawai’i needed to get back to business and open up, they didn’t mean it for themselves.
During these times of endless emergency orders and great uncertainty, it is important, more than ever before, for the people of Hawai’i to observe, meet and converse with our legislators in person. It is the people’s house for doing the people’s business and is part of the accountability, openness, and transparency of government we must demand!
Our magnificent open-air Capitol is a triumph of Aloha State architecture. Its soaring lava rock columns, koa-paneled offices with wide double doors that open into airy promenades, proclaim, “Aloha, all are welcome!” yet special guests like lobbyists can have access, but if you are not connected, you are not welcome.
They closed beaches and mountain trails. They armed DLNR guards at trailheads and even ticketed the Surgeon General of the United States in a public park. All wrong moves, and by locking the people out of our State Capitol, they are still wrong!
The word now is that leaders are reconsidering, but they are not moving fast enough. Let's help them decide! Call all of the decision-makers; Governor Ige, House Speaker Saiki, and Senate President Kouchi to demand they open the people's Capitol now!
Governor Ige (phone # 808-586-0034)
Speaker Saiki (phone # 808-586-6100)
President Kouchi (phone # 808-586-6030)
It’s time to open the Capitol to the public, then work on filling it with elected Republicans!
Please volunteer, donate, and vote this election and elect more Republicans. We need you!
