As we speak, the Senate is debating two critical voting rights bills that would expand and protect the right to freely and easily cast a ballot in the United States.
However, Senate Republicans continue to use the filibuster to block both bills.
Let’s make it explicit. Republicans know that their key to winning is voter disenfranchisement. The only way they can hold on to any power is by blocking more people from using their voices and casting their votes.
The fact of the matter is that in order to pass transformative legislation — on voting rights and a host of other issues — we need to keep growing the progressive movement in Congress.
33 laws restricting the right to vote have already been enacted in 19 states in the past year alone. If we don’t act with urgency, the very foundation of our democracy is at risk.
