On Saturday January 15th, New York State’s eviction moratorium expired. Countless families across the state experienced the trauma of eviction as a result. Evictions exacerbate our public health crisis, and bring destructive ripple effects through education, mental health and economic stability.
In the Public Service Satisfaction survey we conducted with CUNY, housing stability and affordability topped the list of concerns New Yorkers had about quality of life in the city. The high cost of housing and risk of eviction so many New Yorkers face is a policy choice, and we can choose to do things differently.
We must pass permanent Good Cause Eviction protections to keep people in their homes and safeguard our city.

Passing the Good Cause Eviction bill will prevent rent hikes from being used to displace existing tenants, give most tenants the right to a lease renewal, and prevent landlords from removing a renter without legal grounds and an order from a judge.
If you agree that Good Cause Eviction must be passed now, tweet your support here. [[link removed]]
With hope,

P.S. If you or someone you know is facing eviction, there is assistance available. Call 3-1-1 to get connected to a Right to Counsel lawyer, or the Met Council's hotline at 212-979-0611. The ERAP emergency assistance program is reopened, and applying may help protect you from evictions. Apply here. [[link removed]]
