Last week, Democrats passed the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act in the House. Now, we’re waiting on the Senate to do the same.

But unless 10 Republicans vote for this legislation to protect voting rights, the Jim Crow-era filibuster is standing in the way of progress.

This isn’t an issue that we can afford to wait on. The right to vote is fundamental to the health and longevity of our democracy, and the truth is it’s under attack as we speak.

Passing voting rights legislation is the answer to the sinister attacks on access to the ballot box being waged by GOP-led state legislatures across the country.

These attacks are about voter suppression, denying access to the ballot box, and denying the constitutional right to vote for millions of Black and brown voters, rural voters, and disabled voters.
