InProgress: A Weekly reCAP

Oh, What a Year Can Bring.
======================
As analysis of Tuesday night's elections continues to roll in, all eyes are now focused on the 2020 presidential election. With a full year ahead, the outcome of the upcoming presidential election is anyone's guess. But the results from the past two election cycles, plus a deeper examination of demographic and geographic voter trends, suggest trouble ahead for President Donald Trump's reelection, particularly with his continued difficulties with suburban and college-educated voters and his reliance upon a base of white noncollege-educated voters that is declining in size in many places. But Democrats face headwinds of their own given the skew of the Electoral College and the concentration of Trump's base voters in the states that will ultimately determine the election. The Tragic Passing of Denzel Cummings

A few days ago, the progressive movement lost one of its brightest stars with the sudden and unexpected passing of Denzel Cummings at the far-too-young age of 26. This news comes as a shock to all who knew Denzel, and his passing is simply devastating. He was a stalwart member of the CAP Action War Room staff, fighting hard to hold those accountable who worked against the causes of justice and took advantage of the vulnerable. Denzel recently left the CAP Action War Room to relocate to his home state of North Carolina in order to join Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-MA) presidential campaign. This is a terrible loss not only for the Warren campaign and for the Center for American Progress, but also for the larger progressive community and for the issues that Denzel believed in.

It seems not enough to say that our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. Our hearts break with them and for them. May he rest in peace.
