Starting Friday, Bloomingdale Ave is going to be closed at 301 while we repave and get started on widening the onramp onto I-75 North. I told you we'd fix these damn roads, and we are getting to work!
As your State Representative, I wanted to let you know now so you can plan accordingly starting on Friday, so you can take an alternative route, and avoid the intersection altogether.
I put together an explainer video here, and please keep reading below for phasing plans and how it will impact your daily commute.
PHASE 1 – Bloomingdale Ave Intersection Reconstruction/Closure 1/21/22 -2/4/22 (14 days) - During this phase East and Westbound traffic along Bloomingdale Ave will be closed as will Eastbound traffic turning from 301 onto Bloomingdale.
PHASE 2 – NB US 301 Reconstruction/Lane Shifts 2/5/22- 2/24/22 (21 days) - During this phase, lanes along US301 will be shifted to the west and reduced to 2 thorough lanes in each direction as you approach the intersection but East-West traffic on Bloomingdale will be reopened.
PHASE 3 – Progress Blvd Intersection Reconstruction/Closure 2/25/22 -3/11/22 (14 days) - During this phase, East and Westbound traffic on Progress Blvd (Bloomingdale West of 301) will be closed, as will Southbound traffic on 301. At this point, Bloomingdale traffic turning onto Northbound 301 will be fully restored as will the Northbound onramp onto I-75.
PHASE 4 – SB US 301 Reconstruction/Lane Shifts 3/12/22- 04/01/22 (21 days) - During this phase, lanes along US301 will be will be shifted to the east and reduced to 2 thorough lanes in each direction as you approach the intersection, but East and West traffic will be fully restored as well as the I-75 onramp will be unaffected.
My advice, starting on Friday, avoid the area at all costs. Go North to Causeway or HWY60, or take the Interstate instead of US301. This project is going to be disruptive. Here are Eastbound and Westbound detour maps. But don't forget to set a reminder in your phone to go a different way starting THIS FRIDAY.
If you have questions, the public information page for this project is here.
This will certainly be a painful few weeks, but remember the alternative was years of construction and gridlock. The real enemy here is decades of underinvestment in our roads and infrastructure. I said I'd fix these damn roads, and I will.
