How much do I care about protecting the right to vote?

Well, when my Democratic colleagues scheduled a last-minute meeting in DC to chart a path forward for the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, I quickly left the farm, drove through the Montana snow for a couple hours, and flew across the country — and I made it just in time.

I didn’t have time to change out of my denim jeans, baseball cap, and flannel shirt — but it didn’t matter. Some in DC thought I should have been more focused on what I was wearing and have a nice suit and tie on. They are wrong.

Why? Because there’s no dress code for defending voting rights.

With Republicans introducing a flood of bills and passing partisan laws in states across the country that would make it more difficult for certain groups of people to vote, we all need to show up to defend voting rights. Our very democracy is on the line.

I’m going to do everything I can to get this done (even if I’m not dressed like the other Senators!) — but I need your help.
