1 in 3 people lack access to clean water

Dear friend,
Sometimes, getting clean water is as simple as turning on the faucet. But
for the 1 in 3 people around the world who lack access to clean water,
it’s much more difficult, time-consuming, and often dangerous.
In many communities where Mercy Corps works, women and girls devote hours
each day to gathering clean water, risking their health and safety.
No one should have to risk their livelihood for access to clean water.

Katungu Masimengo Sarah is the treasurer of her community group, which
promotes disease prevention to friends and neighbors. She fills her
container at a water point built by Mercy Corps in Democratic Republic of
Congo.
In rural DRC, a lack of resources and infrastructure makes families more
vulnerable to illness and disease, like the country’s recent Ebola
epidemic and the ongoing COVID‑19 pandemic. Water points and latrines
improve safe access to clean water and sanitation.
Around the world, we work with women and communities to create tailored
solutions to water access — from installing safety light panels in
latrines in Syria, to constructing girls’ toilet facilities in Nepali
schools.

support the right to clean water for all?
Last year, our efforts to support clean water and sanitation reached more
than 13 million people in 29 countries. Together, we can continue to make
an impact for the communities we serve in the months to come.
Sincerely,
The Mercy Corps team
