Things are moving quickly here in the Valley so I wanted to make sure to keep you in the loop.

My friend and mentor, Rep. Jerry McNerney, recently decided he wasn’t going to run for reelection in the newly formed CA-9 district. This new district took parts of his district and combined them with parts of mine, including the cities of Tracy and Manteca. So, when Jerry told me he wasn’t going to run, I knew I had to step up and run to keep CA-9 blue.

I have deep ties to San Joaquin County - I’ve represented thousands of San Joaquin families the past 3 years and my family roots actually go back generations. One of our favorite family stories is that my great-great-grandpa headed out to California in a wagon train in search of gold, stopped a few miles short and started a peach farm in Manteca. So it’s very meaningful for Pam and I to get to start our own soon-to-be growing family in the same community.

I’ll also add - this district is still a super competitive toss-up seat. We have lots of challenges ahead including fighting GOP misinformation online, a vital latino organizing program and a strong Republican opponent (more on him later…).

We’re really excited, and I’m ready for the tough work ahead. We have to hold this seat and I know with this amazing grassroots team we can do it.
