Yesterday Mitch McConnell called the current attempts to bring voting rights reform to the Senate floor for a vote “reckless” and an “unprincipled” power grab -- quite the accusation from a leader in the party that introduced 425+ voter suppression bills in state legislatures last year.

As the Senate debates voting rights, don’t let the rhetoric around outdated Senate procedure distract you from the facts about this bill. There will be real-world impacts if Congress passes the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act:

Tens of millions of people would benefit from automatic voter registration -- bypassing the red tape of outdated registration processes and conservative attempts to make registration difficult.

Essential protections from the Voting Rights Act would be reinstated -- creating a layer of protection that would thwart efforts to pass more voter suppression laws before the 2022 midterm elections.

Voters in EVERY STATE will be empowered to challenge partisan gerrymandered congressional maps in court. Our team ran the numbers on states where the GOP controls redistricting -- and as of right now, we predict 10 states would FAIL the fair map standards in the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

Four of those states are Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida -- states that election experts believe could determine control of Congress. The difference between a fair map and a gerrymandered map could be the deciding factor.

This national standard for fair maps would have a huge impact on the redistricting landscape. Chip in to help this movement fight for fair maps!

We are fighting for every state to have that same chance to challenge maps that unfairly favor one party.

Over the past week, the AOTL movement has contacted Congress more than 6,000 times to tell senators to take action on voting rights. Will you make a donation to support our advocacy work as Congress continues to debate voting rights today?
