Let?s keep working together to beat Covid-19
mask test jab graphic
It was around this time two years ago that we started to get a real sense that Covid-19 was going to have a major impact on our lives. But few of us expected that in 2022 we would still be taking precautions to stay safe from the virus. I am proud of the way that people in our city pulled together to follow the rules to stop the spread of Covid. This collective sense of working together is what is great about our city and our country. I would like to thank everyone who has been following the rules and not breaking Covid restrictions.
Today it has been announced that some of the restrictions that were introduced before Christmas under ?Plan B? are being lifted over the next week. These include:
* The end of mandatory Covid passes in England, with businesses allowed to use them if they choose
* Mandatory face masks will end ? including in secondary school classrooms from tomorrow
* People will no longer need to work from home
This is welcome news, but I would urge caution. Although cases of Covid are falling, the rates are still high. Please continue to think carefully about how best to stay safe over the next few weeks and months:
* *Get vaccinated:* two doses and a booster gives you the best protection. Book your jab here Book Coronavirus Vaccination [ [link removed] ]
* *Keep testing:* take a regular lateral flow test at home to make sure you are Covid-free. Find out where to get tests: Covid-19 testing [ [link removed] ]
* *Take care: *please consider continuing to wear face coverings in busy indoor public spaces like shops and public transport
The last two years have not been easy ? and we have all made sacrifices to make sure we respected the rules. Let?s all take the next step carefully together; please continue to take care of yourself and each other.

Lottery funding secured to restore the Grade II Victoria Embankment Memorial Gardens
Victoria Embankment
We are delighted to confirm that we have been successful in our bid to secure ?1.7m to develop?Victoria Embankment Memorial Gardens. External funding has come from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Transforming Cities Fund and The War Memorials Trust and will be used to improve facilities, create a visitor centre with toilets and jobs on the park.
The project?will include restoration works to the war Memorial, the Queen Victoria Statue and the pond and fountain. Paths and access will be improved alongside the re-planting original flower beds and installing new furniture. World War Two Roll of Honours will also be developed.
In 2019 we completed the World War One Memorial and this additional funding will allow future generations to rediscover the site as a place for contemplation, relaxation and recreation within the local community. More here [ [link removed] ]

Nottingham City Council continues to take action to support residents living in tall buildings
Nottingham Skyline
The safety of our residents and leaseholders, whether living in high-rise council apartments or private rented ones, has always been really important to us. Since the Grenfell tragedy in 2017, we want to reassure those living in taller buildings in Nottingham that we continue to take action to help keep them safe.
Following the tragedy, we acted swiftly to establish which buildings might be at risk and to engage the co-operation of the building owners and developers, for them to put plans in place to start replacing any suspected unsafe cladding. We also set up the country?s first Joint Audit and Inspection Team to carrying out fire safety audits of existing and new taller buildings.
Cladding on Nottingham City Council owned residential taller buildings, which are managed on our behalf by Nottingham City Homes, already meet the required safety standards, and did not have the same cladding as that used on Grenfell Tower. However, we have invested ?8.5m in an additional fire safety programme to help reassure and help keep Nottingham City Council tenants safe.?More here. [ [link removed] ]
