Our ears perked up Sunday when on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Larry Hogan replied to a question about his reported plans to run for Senate against Chris by saying that 'people' were telling him it was his "patriotic duty" to run. But it’s no secret who those ‘people’ whispering in his ear are.

As the Baltimore Sun wrote last week, “the call for Hogan to run is not coming from Maryland, it’s coming from inside the Beltway.”

Listen, the truth is that Mitch McConnell and his billionaire donors are going all-out to get Larry Hogan into the race against Chris to help Mitch win back the Senate gavel — and stop all progress. Can we count on you to pitch in now to make sure Chris is ready to fight back, win, and defend our Senate majority? [[link removed]]

You may remember some of McConnell’s particularly “patriotic” moments, such as the time he abandoned Senate precedent to block President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court and then later shredded Senate norms to ram through the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett. Or what about when he used the filibuster to block the Senate from voting on bipartisan legislation to form an independent commission to investigate the January 6th attack on our democracy?

And later today, Mitch plans to once again use the Senate’s current anti-democratic filibuster to block a vote on the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!

It's pretty clear what McConnell means by “patriotic” — and he wants Larry Hogan to join him in these efforts in the US Senate. We need to be prepared to fight back and keep Chris working for us and for our democracy. We can't let them flip this Senate seat and bring Mitch McConnell back as majority leader.
