Dear John,
It’s National Run for Office Day, and we're thinking about all the incredible candidates who have made our work possible. In our first 5 years, we have supported more than 50 first-time candidates – everyday people, like teachers and veterans and the children of working-class immigrants.
Many of our candidates have also made history, like Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, the first out transgender person elected to state legislative office; Ricky Hurtado, the first and only Latino Democrat to serve in North Carolina House; Padma Kuppa, the first Indian immigrant and Hindu elected to the Michigan legislature; and Claire Wilson, the first open lesbian elected to the Washington State Senate.
But as we celebrate the diversity among our alumni, we know that running for office isn't easy – especially when most state legislators are paid less than a livable wage. Women, candidates of color, and candidates from non-traditional backgrounds face a tougher climb when it comes to fundraising and endorsements.
That’s why today, we are asking you to donate and support our work over the next 5 years. Help us build state legislatures that look like the communities they represent!
Your dollars, support, and enthusiasm allow historic candidates to run who otherwise wouldn't have the means. With your support, we are able to provide campaign services like field planning, communications consulting, voter targeting analysis, and GOTV training – completely free of charge.
We envision a world where glass ceilings are a thing of the past, and every single state legislature reflects their communities. Your support will continue to make it possible.
