Reaching across the aisle/bipartisanship/working together sounds lovely in the abstract. President Biden was trying to heal our nation after a deadly and divisive four years with our abusive Ex, so he used those words liberally during his campaign. Republicans’ persistent campaigning to “Stop the Steal,” long after they had lost over fifty legal challenges to the election results in state after state by December 8, 2020, should have been a wake-up call. Certainly January 6, 2021, should have sounded the death knell for that sentiment.
Republicans have not been chastened by the extremists among them but have forged ahead with a whole new raft of voter suppression laws in 2021, and even the few Republicans in Congress who were horrified by January 6, 2021, joined their colleagues in blocking voting rights legislation four times in 2021.
Senator Feinstein, as a senior member of the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, has seen her Republican colleagues endanger our national security and defy their oaths of office for over five years now, for purely partisan political interests. It’s time for her to admit that preserving our democracy is no longer a bipartisan aspiration and step up to demand a reform to the filibuster and passage of the Freedom To Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

What, Another Election?!?

It’s election time again.
Yes, again. San Francisco is holding a January–February 2022 consolidated special election. You should have received your ballot in the mail by now; if you haven’t, you should check your voter registration ([link removed]) .
Depending on where in the City you’re registered to vote, you will have up to three things to vote on. We aren’t offering any recommendations or endorsements, but we can tell you ([link removed]) what’s on the ballot and how to cast yours.
You have until Monday, February 14, to mail back your ballot, or you can drop it off until 8 PM on Tuesday, February 15.

Description: Demonstrators gather to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. at Yerba Buena
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, about 150 (securely masked) people gathered in SOMA/downtown to demand "no celebration without legislation" from President Biden and our senators. We marched from the Caltrain station, across the Lefty O’Doul bridge near Giants stadium, and over to the MLK memorial at Yerba Buena Gardens, where we held a rally and pledged to take more actions like calls to senators. Nancy from Indivisible East Bay led the organizing effort (on the heels of also organizing our highly successful Jan. 6 vigil and protest). All are welcome to participate and contribute, even if you’ve never attended an ISF meeting before.
Fight Back Fridays: Friday, January 21, 5–6PM. Join us every Friday to demand that Senator Feinstein, other Democratic senators, and President Biden do more to defend our democracy. We gather each week at 1 Post in SF (in front of Senator Feinstein’s office building, at one of the Montgomery Street BART exits). We’ll rally every Friday until voting rights legislation is passed.
