It's been an exciting week for all of us on the Forward Majority team.

Tuesday's victory in Virginia--Democrats recapturing control of both chambers of the legislature--is one to celebrate as we head into 2020. Since 2017, we've been making long-term investments to win the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate.

In Texas, the Democratic candidate we backed received the most votes in a special election for a state house district that Trump carried by 10 points--beating the top Republican candidate by double digits. Her performance is yet another sign of the increasing competitiveness of the Texas suburbs.

My key takeaway from this past week's elections as I told USA Today: Long-term strategy and investment can yield Democrats key wins and majorities in the state house chambers that will decide the balance of power for the next decade.

While Trump should be worried about the progress we made on Tuesday, the fights that lie ahead for us will be steeper with more at stake than ever before. In key battlegrounds for redistricting like Texas in 2020, Republicans already control every lever of power at the state level, and have already bent the rules of our democracy in their favor through voter suppression and gerrymandering.

While the GOP is preparing to protect their power in state legislatures, join us in leading the charge to break their trifectas in state capitols and secure key legislative chambers to prevent another decade of Republican gerrymandered maps.

When Democratic energy and resources show up, we win. The amount of money and attention on Virginia on the Democratic side in 2019 was unprecedented. But we cannot let up now.

Republicans already hold a serious advantage in the key battlegrounds we're assessing for 2020. Dozens upon dozens of congressional districts could be gerrymandered by these state legislatures if we do not win back power before the 2021 redistricting process.

Beating Trump is not enough. Inaction and under-resourced state legislative races threaten the future integrity of our democracy. Chip in now to help us build upon our victory in Virginia and bring that same fire power to key races across the country in 2020
