John,

In 2021, it became harder to vote in 19 states.

Nineteen states have enacted 34 laws to this nefarious end — to suppress votes and subvert elections — including right here in Georgia.

Last year, I helped pass H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, in the House. The bill still awaits a vote by the U.S. Senate.

In October, Senate Republicans blocked the Freedom to Vote Act, a new and comprehensive package of voting, redistricting and campaign finance reforms, from even being debated.

These bills are being passed by simple majorities in state legislatures and aim to undermine our democracy. Therefore, it is time for the U.S. Senate to respond in kind, by shedding the shackles of the filibuster, to protect our democracy.

John, chip in NOW to join the fight. We must protect our right to vote. [[link removed]]

It is not lost on anyone that we are addressing voting rights during the same week we are remembering and honoring Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will continue his fight here in the House, making sure your access to vote and your rights are protected.

John, will you join me in standing up against voter suppression? In the fight to support our democracy, every voter must have a voice. [[link removed]]

We must remember the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement. Inaction is complacency and complicity in the face of a wrong. Passing these bills is an act of conscience and courage to make things right.

Thank you,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
