Hi friend,

Yesterday, GLAAD released the newest edition of our annual Where We Are on TV report and hosted a panel for industry members featuring a great lineup including LGBTQ actors, talent agents, and advocates to speak about LGBTQ representation and the path forward.

This annual study analyzes the overall diversity of primetime scripted series regulars on television networks, and the LGBTQ characters on primetime scripted cable programming as well as scripted originals on Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix in the 2019-20 season. For every character analyzed, GLAAD examines the character’s sexual orientation, gender identity, race/ethnicity, and disability status. The report also provides context of findings, and steps to make change for the future.

Check out some key findings below, and you can read the full study at glaad.org/whereweareontv <[link removed]>. Be sure to also follow @GLAAD on Twitter <[link removed]> and Instagram <[link removed]> as we highlight findings and answer questions!

- Broadcast TV again hit a record high percentage of LGBTQ characters – 10.2% (90) of all series regulars on primetime scripted series on ABC, CBS, FOX, The CW, and NBC are LGBTQ. There are an additional 30 recurring LGBTQ characters on broadcast.
- For the first time, LGBTQ women outnumber LGBTQ men on broadcast! And for the second year in a row, LGBTQ people of color outnumber white LGBTQ people on broadcast series.
- Transgender inclusion is up on TV – from 26 characters to 38 across broadcast, cable, and streaming originals – and the number of transgender men more than doubled.
- LGBTQ inclusion also increased on both cable and streaming originals on Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix!

We know at GLAAD that #RepresentationMatters – the power of media as the biggest vehicle to share our stories is at the heart of GLAAD’s work every day and has been for the past 34 years. Thanks for supporting our work year-round.

Check out GLAAD’s Instagram story today, I’ll be answering questions all day about the report and its findings!
