Over the weekend, communities across the country and world honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s leadership in the fight for economic, political, and social equality for all Americans. And now, we honor his legacy by continuing the fight for political equality for voters.
Voting rights are under attack. Republicans continue to perpetuate disinformation and are working across the country to enact new voter suppression laws. These suppression tactics primarily target and disenfranchise voters of color, young voters, seniors, and voters who cannot afford to take time off from work.
You already let my team know voting rights should be a top priority in 2022 – I’m with you. Nothing in our nation’s democracy is more sacred than the right to vote.
That’s why we need to do everything we can to defend the heart of our democracy and end the filibuster to pass two critical pieces of legislation to protect voting rights. Are you with me? Instantly add your name in support here.
Right now, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and For the People Act are stuck in the Senate. Passing and signing these bills into law would mean: creating new measures of election security, expanding access to mail-in voting, and protecting voters from systemic racism.
We need to put an end to these egregious voter suppression tactics spreading across the country, especially as we go into another election year. Join me in calling to end the filibuster and protect voters.
We have the opportunity and the obligation to carry on the important work of Dr. King and so many others – to make our voices heard and ensure all voters can do the same this year.
Sincerely,
Madeleine Dean
