Across the country, a few states are following Trump’s lead and enacting voter suppression laws that make it harder to vote.
But here in New Mexico, we’re working with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to lead the way on protecting voting rights!
Here are just a few of the ways we’re leading when it comes to making it easier to vote:
1. Making election day a state holiday and extending early voting all the way up to the Sunday before an election.
2. Creating a permanent absentee ballot list that allows people to voluntarily receive absentee ballots every election without making new requests
3. Supporting Native voting access by expanding the timeline for indigenous nations, tribes, and pueblos to request alternate voting sites.
4. Improving our automatic voter registration system
This legislation will help balance demands for voter access with the needs of maintaining our high levels of election security and integrity.
And it shows once again that with Maggie (and Governor Lujan Grisham!), New Mexico is a leader when it comes to elections.
Let’s get this critical legislation passed,
