John, white supremacy is systematically attacking our education system. That's why we're pushing to pass one of Rep. Jamaal Bowman's recent bills, the African American History Act.
The African American History Act would invest $10 million over a 5 year period in the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) to support African American history education programs that are available to all and accessible throughout the entire country.
If one thing's for sure: White supremacists in office won't take this lightly. Our priorities are focused on our future leaders and transforming our children's learning environment to help
unlock their full potential and lead us into a true and educated democracy.
In today's current education system, our democracy and our history are being challenged (cough cough, the far-right's anti-Black war on Critical Race Theory). And this ignorance of the truth has left many students all over the country subject to dishonest and unjust education.
It's our responsibility to preserve the progress of African American history. Every day that we don't pass the African American History Act is another day that we short-change educators, students, and families in learning about African American history.
John, if you believe that African American history is a prevalent part of our past, present, and future, please add your name and become a grassroots cosponsor of the African American History Act today.
We can't let the far-right's anti-Black campaigns against Critical Race Theory undo all of our hard work.
A part of fighting against white supremacy is confronting America's racist past and present in order to achieve a future that values Black history and Black people.
The African American History Act is set to increase the national capacity for African American history education while also funding and improving upon a variety of the NMAAHC's resources such as:
- Developing and maintaining accessible resources to promote an understanding of African American history.
- Engaging with local and state leaders interested in incorporating these resources in curricula.
- Engaging with the public through programming, resources, and social media to increase awareness of African American history through a social justice and anti-bias lens.
- Convening experts and creating and providing scholarly work.
- Translating new and existing NMAAHC work into multiple languages for accessibility.
Ensuring quality education regarding Black and African American history is crucial to education across the entire country, especially in places they've refused to confront racist pasts impacting the present.
The truth should always be available to all and inspire us to move towards the direction and knowledge of a true democracy. But the only way that happens is if we all rise up and demand it.
John, please stand with us in support of the African American History Act and our efforts to ensure that our students are granted an education rooted in tolerance, love, and justice for humanity by becoming a grassroots cosponsor of the African American History Act.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
