Let's take a closer look at Texas And the state of abortion access
Texas passed SB-8 this year: which bans abortion after six weeks, and allows ordinary citizens to sue anyone they believe is aiding or abetting an abortion. Because the Supreme Court refused to intervene, this law is still standing in Texas. Democrats outnumbered at the state level It’s not just SB-8: 74 pieces of anti-choice legislation and only 7 pieces of prochoice legislation were introduced in 2021 in Texas. An early primary With a March 1st primary deciding hundreds of state and local elections, their elections will also decide redistricting power. We can't afford not to take action in Texas. Getting abortion care in Texas Spoiler Alert: It's not easy! Many people don’t even know that they’re pregnant at six weeks, which is when Texas’s ban kicks in. Patients who learn that they’re pregnant in time must still: Find a licensed physician. Observe a 24 hour waiting period from the first visit, meaning twice the cost and twice the journey and difficulty visiting twice Attend mandated counseling. Have parental involvement if they're a minor. And at the end of the day: Providers can STILL refuse service!
