PROTECT VOTING RIGHTS NOW: Call your senators now and tell them to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act John,
We wanted to give you an update on where things stand regarding the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.
This afternoon, the Senate will begin debate on this vital voting rights legislation.
We expect debate to last for most of the day. As we mentioned last week, once debate concludes, the Senate may then vote on a rules change that would allow for a simple majority of senators to pass legislation related to voting rights. This would ensure that the bill could not be filibustered, as so many voting rights bills have been in the last year. If the rule change vote passes, the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act will be brought up for a full Senate vote.
We expect voting will most likely take place tomorrow, so we need to do everything we can today to ensure our senators hear from us and know that they must vote to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. We know it feels like we're constantly calling, emailing and tweeting, but this is the last stretch. The time is now to ensure our elected officials do what we elected them to do -- protect the most sacred right to vote for all.
Let's do this together,
