CEP Statement On Abu Dhabi Terror Attacks

(New York, N.Y.) – Counter Extremism Project (CEP) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, CEP President Frances F. Townsend, and CEP Senior Advisor Norman T. Roule released the following joint statement today in response to the drone terror attacks in Abu Dhabi perpetrated by the Houthis—officially known as Ansar Allah (Partisans of God)—which killed at least three civilians and wounded six.

“The Iran-backed Houthis have continued its campaign of terror against civilians and civilian infrastructure from its base of operations in Yemen. CEP stands with the people of the United Arab Emirates as they mourn the losses from the attack. We applaud the Biden Administration for recognizing that the Houthis are guilty of a heinous terrorist attack and strongly urge it to reverse its February 2021 decision to de-list the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

“The deadly drone attacks on a civilian airport and industrial park are representative of how the Houthis have operated for years—attacks against multinational civilian targets, often using Iranian missiles and drones as well as tactics provided by Iran’s Qods Force and Lebanese Hezbollah, the world’s leading sponsors of terrorism. The international community should bring whatever pressure is required to compel Iran to cease its support for these terrorist activities.”
