This is deeply personal for me.

My sweet 14-year-old nephew, Alex, was shot and murdered while sitting at his desk in Language Arts class.

Alex was just a Freshman in high school who played trombone and baritone in the Marching Band.

He dreamed of becoming a University of Connecticut Husky one day -- a dream he will never be able to achieve.

Alex will never graduate. Never walk down the aisle. Never have a family of his own.

My world shattered when I got the call about Alex. But I knew I couldn’t stand by and do nothing while our children -- my nephew -- are slaughtered at their desks by gun violence. So, I’m working tirelessly to kick every single NRA-backed politician OUT of office, elect gun safety champions, and finally ban assault weapons. Defeating the NRA and their piles of cash won’t be easy but it’s crucial to ending our country's deadly gun violence epidemic.
