Friend--
With the cost of housing, health care and groceries rising, wages stagnating and a growing wealth gap, it’s never been more important for us to be able to make our elected leaders listen to us.
But in many places, there are too many barriers between the people and the ballot box. Long lines, short voting hours and voter roll purges are just a few of the ways that people have been unfairly prevented from exercising their right to vote.
Right now, there’s a bill in the Senate that would help fight voter suppression. The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act would make it easier for us to hold our elected officials accountable on issues that matter to us. By making it easier for eligible voters to register, providing more time for us to cast our ballots and allowing us to vote by mail, this bill will ensure working peoples’ voices are heard.
We can win this important vote if senators change the Senate rules that allow a small minority to block important laws. We can’t let an old rule that has been broken many times in the past stand between us and the rights of working people.
We are asking our senators to strengthen our voting rights with a simple majority vote. Tell your senators to vote YES on The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act and amend Senate rules to allow majority votes on important issues such as voting rights.
In solidarity,
Sydney Roberts
