It’s almost a year since Jair Bolsonaro was elected president of Brazil. He didn’t take office until January 2019, but our work to counter his racist, anti-indigenous rhetoric began well before then.
And President Bolsonaro has not had an easy time bulldozing indigenous rights – every step of the way he has been met with fierce opposition from indigenous peoples and their allies, like you. It’s been a year of protest, resistance, and tragically some of the most devastating forest fires the Amazon has ever seen.
We’ve been working with indigenous partners to amplify their voices, support their protests and bolster their work. And with your support, we’ve been working around the clock:
Investigating and exposing loggers, miners and ranchers who invade tribal lands.
Directly supporting the Guardians of the Amazon in their fight to protect their forest and the forest of their uncontacted neighbors.
Working alongside APIB – the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil – and other indigenous organizations and allies.
Fostering protest and targeting President Bolsonaro and key ministers via social media and emails.
And much, much more!
This year, your donations have allowed us to expand our Brazil office, so we can fight even harder alongside Brazil’s indigenous peoples. We’re enormously grateful to you all, and inspired by how you’ve mobilized at this time of crisis.
