Fellow Young Democrats,


I don’t know about you, but the past few days of celebration, relief, and recovery have been some of my best since 2016. The sense of relief that comes with knowing that, starting in January, we will have a General Assembly that is fighting for our shared values in Richmond has helped me sleep just a little bit better. Well, that, and the fact that I’m finally getting real sleep and some self-care again. We’re all the better for having all of you helping us reach this incredible milestone. If you’re 26 years old or younger, this is the first time in your life that the Democrats have had a trifecta in Virginia, and you played a major role in making that happen.

Now that we’re in the majority in the General Assembly, we can expand voting rights, pass the ERA, protect a person’s right to choose, institute universal background checks, and enact criminal justice reform, just to name a few policies on the agenda for next year.

This year, AYD members traveled all across the Commonwealth of Virginia to make those policies a reality. From Wendy Gooditis, to Josh Cole, to Alex Askew, we showed up in force every weekend for two months to support candidates who will improve the lives of millions of Virginians for a generation to come. In all, we knocked on nearly 5,000 doors and reached well over 5,000 voters in more than 10 swing elections. In Arlington, we partnered with the Arlington Democrats to turnout blue voters for our candidates. We sent more than 80,000 texts to likely voters and confirmed thousands of Democratic votes so that every single Democrat on the ballot won election by wide margins.

This is just the beginning. The easy part was winning; the hard part will be governing. We now have a responsibility to hold our newly elected officials accountable for their votes and ensure that we’re helping them pass laws which will create a more equitable and prosperous Virginia for everyone.

I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for participating in this election cycle with us. We left it all out on the field and came away with a big curly W for democracy. Get some self-care over the next few weeks, because after the Arlington Young Dems election on November 20th, we’ll be gearing up for the fight of our lives to retake the White House.
