Briefing: Caring for Those with Complex Needs:
A Health Affairs Virtual Event

For the past year, Health Affairs has published a series of articles on Health Affairs Forefront (formerly Health Affairs Blog) on the topic of caring for people with complex health and social needs, a field that has gained prominence over the last 10 years.
The goal of the series has been to: elevate the science, policy and best practices relating to this high-need population; inform our readership about that progress; and provide a platform for leading voices to raise important questions about what comes next.
The result has
been a diverse and impressive collection of work examining the many pathways to improved care and responsive policymaking. These efforts have been defined by their flexibility, innovation, and a willingness to reach across multiple medical specialties, hospitals, home health agencies, as well as social service providers and behavioral health interventions.
You are invited to join Health Affairs Editor-in-Chief Alan Weil on Friday, January 28, 2022, for a virtual forum on the topic, spotlighting key elements from the collection and elevating voices of patients, caregivers and advocates who know firsthand the practical and policy challenges of caring for this growing element of America’s health care population.
Presenters will include:
Mandar Bodas, Research Scientist, Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, George Washington University, "Will States Use ‘Rescue Plan’ Funding To Give Direct Care Workers A Raise?"
Allison Hamblin, President and CEO, Center for Health Care Strategies, Envisioning The Future Of Complex Care
Carol Levine, Senior Fellow, United Hospital Fund, and former director, UHF’s Families and Health Care Project on Caregivers, "Family Caregivers: The Unrecognized Strength Behind Hospital At Home"
Connie L. Montgomery, Patient and Family Advisor, PFCCpartners, and Family Faculty Member, Medical University of South Carolina
Victor Murray, Senior Director of Community Engagement & Capacity Building, Camden Coalition
Kacy Seitz, Children’s Mercy Family Advisory Board, and Chair, Beacon Complex Care Clinic Patient & Family Advisory Board
Health Affairs is grateful to the John A. Hartford Foundation, Commonwealth Fund, SCAN Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Adria Foundation for their financial support of the series and briefing.
Don’t forget to register for our other upcoming events. We hope to see you soon.
Best, Debbie Boylan Director of Events, Health Affairs
