Republican attacks on Lucy were just highlighted in top voting rights journalist Ari Berman's latest piece on Republican attacks against our free and fair elections. Berman explained:

" Lucy's victory exemplified Democratic inroads in formerly red states like Georgia and new power being exercised by communities of color in the rapidly diversifying South. But those gains are quickly being erased by the GOP through a toxic combination of gerrymandering, voter suppression, and election subversion that together pose a mortal threat to free and fair elections... The targeting of McBath is not an isolated incident. It's a stark illustration of the GOP's nationwide playbook for undermining voting rights, with Georgia at ground zero of this battle."

Keeping Lucy in Congress this year will send a signal to the Georgia and National GOP – they can't push us around, they can't "retire" Lucy with their biased maps, and our fight for voting rights and free and fair elections is far from over. As Lucy told NPR in an interview this week, passing federal voting rights legislation is of paramount importance right now, despite the current obstacles in place. Since the 2020 election, 19 states have passed 34 laws making it harder for folks to vote across the country. We cannot stop these voter suppression measures without new federal protections for voting rights. It is imperative that we pass these laws to protect our elections.

In the face of this coordinated assault by Republicans around the country on voter access and election integrity, Americans deserve to cast their ballots without this fear of interference or obstruction by one political party.

Everything is on the line right now in the decades' long fight for voting rights, and now more than ever, we need outspoken Democrats who will stand up for our voting rights in Washington like Lucy.
