Arlingtonians and Friends,

I will get back to you Monday with thoughts on the Virginia elections. Yes, we did. And I have a report on last month's board meetings to come as well. This morning, the water main break is highest on everyone's minds, so I want to pass along an update.

This morning a 36 inch water pipe broke near Chain Bridge where North Glebe intersects it. County staff is working to fix the problem, but in the meantime, we are asking you to boil water.
Water Main Break Advisory--Information
The County has previously taken precautionary steps before this pipe broke, so there is "redundancy"--additional water pipes that can help. Even so, our Department of Environmental Services must test the water to be sure that the current routing of water is safe. Thus, the boiling of water.

I am sorry for the inconvenience of the schools being closed and having to boil water. I know this impacts your life. Please know that we are working to fix the problem and our investment in the pipes before this will lead us to fix it sooner.
Steps to take to be Safe and Boil Water
We do not know exactly when the boil water advisory will end, but I do want to reassure you that the County Manager is on this and has briefed the Board. I hope to have an update over the next 12 to 36 hours.

In the meantime, we will stay on top of this and I will email you when we have an update. Apologies again for the inconvenience and please be as patient as possible as we work to fix this.
