Across Northern Ireland, campaigning in the General Election is underway.

At the last Westminster election, the votes of people in Northern Ireland helped return a strong team of DUP MPs. Working together, they ahve been able to speak up for Northern Ireland's interests and had the strength to deliver for people here, securing an additional £1.5billion for Northern Ireland's schools, roads and hospitals, That investment has been making a real difference in every community across Northern Ireland.

** Our Health Service needs a working Assembly
------------------------------------------------------------

Party Leader Arlene Foster: "to turn the health service around you need to turn up at Stormont".

DUP East Belfast candidate Gavin Robinson has said Sinn Fein press commentary about our health service rings hollow when that same party has been blocking devolution and preventing the implementation of the Bengoa Report.

Mr Robinson said,

“The best way to implement change in our health service would be to have a Health Minister and a functioning Northern Ireland Executive. Michelle O’Neill’s party is the blockage to securing both these outcomes.

Michelle O’Neill abandoned her post as Health Minister and left the Bengoa Report on her desk as she walked out the door. Bengoa was the most radical reform of how healthcare was to be delivered. For three years it has been gathering dust because of Sinn Fein’s boycott.

Whilst the DUP has delivered £1.5Billion for everyone in Northern Ireland which is helping our schools and hospitals, Sinn Fein has delivered nothing but chaos and headlines. We have used our influence to help tackle waiting times, recruit more nurses and provide better mental health services.

Sinn Fein want a mandate to do nothing. It’s time for Michelle O’Neill to get back to work. It’s time for Sinn Fein to lift the boycott. It’s time to get the Assembly restored.”

** HIA Bill testimony to dedication and fortitude of campaigners
------------------------------------------------------------

Emma Little Pengelly speaking during the HIA debate in Parliament.

The Historical Institutional Abuse Bill received Royal Assent this week after it was debated on the last day before Parliament was dissolved for the General Election.

Commenting afterwards Emma Little Pengelly said, “In a Parliament that has been dominated by a small number of other issues, it is fitting that during its last day, action was taken on a great injustice.

I pay tribute to all those victims for their efforts throughout the process. It has been a battle throughout, even to ensure the Bill would be debated.

I have been involved in this process over many years and I know the impact that testimony from victims had on the then First and deputy First Minister. Right from the first meeting there was always a determination to secure justice for all those who suffered.

The pain of what happened to them will always be there, but what has finally been secured will hopefully be of some comfort to victims. It will also stand as testimony to the dedication and fortitude of those who campaigned so tirelessly over many years."
