Dear John,
Donald Trump loves coal. He loves coal A LOT. So he had a really bad day this week when voters in Virginia elected new leaders who love wind and solar a lot more.
Thanks to the work of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network Action Fund, Virginia is poised to become the first Southern coal state to impose a cap on carbon pollution from power plants. Let that sink in.
Now we’re going further. After Tuesday’s election, watched closely from coast to coast, we have majorities in both the Virginia House and Senate who believe climate change is a problem and know clean energy is the solution. Our goal is 100% clean power for Virginia – and the nation.
Help us finish the fight in Virginia! Chip in $10 to bring the clean energy revolution to the southern bank of the Potomac River – just outside Trump’s White House window.
The Virginia election was widely seen as a national test case for progressive issues, including climate change. AND WE WON. We took on Big Coal, especially Virginia’s mega-polluting utility Dominion Energy. Dominion’s close ties to the Trump Administration are well known. U.S. Attorney General William Barr is a former Dominion board member, who was given $1.2 million in stocks and cash for his service to the company.
Now, thanks to the advocacy of CCAN Action Fund and our partners, a full one-third of the newly elected members of the Virginia General Assembly have completely rejected Dominion’s campaign cash. Elections have consequences, and one consequence of Tuesday night is that coal’s days are numbered even in a state long dependent on coal and other fossil fuels.
Chip in $10 dollars to help CCAN Action Fund keep us moving toward clean energy. Our goal is 100% clean power in Virginia – and the nation.
With your help, we can expand the revolution until we finally bust down the gates of Washington, DC itself. Then every day will be a bad day for Trump.
Regards,
Mike Tidwell
