Hey John. On this day that we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I’m reflecting in particular on how much work we have left to do to achieve Dr. King’s dream. The struggle to pass critical voting rights legislation in Congress is deeply frustrating. And if Congress fails, it won’t just be a blow for Democrats — it’ll be a blow for our country. I’m frankly disgusted with Republicans who continue to proclaim the need for “bipartisanship” while simultaneously subverting and undermining elections at every level, causing deep damage to the very foundation of our democracy. But if Dr. King taught us anything, it’s that real change is never easy. With vision, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to justice, change is still possible — but we must keep fighting for it. And for us here in Florida’s 15th District, that starts by ensuring that Scott Franklin never gets another term in Congress.
My opponent had not one but two chances to show that he supports the right of all Americans to vote. Both times, he showed his true colors by voting no on critical voting rights legislation, putting his party’s overt power grab before the health and stability of our democracy. My pledge to you today is that I will always fight to protect and expand the right to vote — for ALL Americans, no matter where you live or whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, independent, or anything else.
