Other results, outside the spotlight, could have even more abiding impact on what government looks like, including the passage of a ballot initiative here in New York City that will change the way we vote. Play Stop  (photo: White House) Also on the show: After Donald Trump’s appearance at a conference of police chiefs, a wire reporter wrote, presumably with a straight face: “Trump concluded his speech by signing an executive order creating a commission to study the root causes of crime and implement the best ideas immediately.” That raises roughly a billion questions, but media didn’t ask any of them—even as Trump simultaneously announced a frightening escalation in police militarization he suggested be called “The Surge.” We’ll talk about that with Netfa Freeman of the Institute for Policy Studies.
