Help us combat unnecessary voter suppression laws in Georgia and across the country → [[link removed]]

The New York Times just reported that GOP legislators in Georgia, some who are facing tight races, are using the power of their offices to push even more restrictions to voting -- all in an attempt to help their party do better at the ballot box.

This comes after last year's SB 202, a voter suppression law that A.G. Holder called "a shameful attempt to silence the will of the people." With Republicans relentlessly subverting democracy in Georgia, it's no surprise that Sen. Warnock is urging his Democratic colleagues in the Senate to take national action -- and overcome Republican obstruction -- on voting rights.

We agree with Sen. Warnock. We must take action on voting rights. Will you pitch in $35 right now to help us continue investing in our advocacy campaign to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act and ensure our elections are fair? [[link removed]]

A Georgia election official told The New York Times: “The most disturbing thing is that the people who have an iron grip on power in the General Assembly believe that they have to continue to suppress voting in order to maintain that iron grip.”

Last week, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Joyce Beatty said CBC members are concerned about Republican-led state legislatures pushing strict voting suppression efforts.

Rep. Beatty warned that Black communities will "lose the most if the Senate does not do its job and pass voting rights legislation" and pointed to what's happening in states like Georgia saying: "Look at some of the laws they're putting in place... the urgency is now!"

Passing nationwide voting reforms is one of the surest ways we can stave off undemocratic attempts to manipulate election results on the national, state, and local level.

Senate Majority Leader Schumer said he plans to consider and debate changes to the Senate rules if Republicans do not change course from obstructing the democracy reforms we so badly need.

Can we count on you to make a donation right now? Your contribution will help us advocate for Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act into law. [[link removed]]
