Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose impact on the nation’s Civil Rights and racial justice movements are still felt today.

Dr. King spent his life fighting for justice. He was vocal about the institutional changes needed to make his dreams of equality a reality – defending voting rights, ensuring every child has access to a quality education, and demanding social justice for all citizens.

He challenged the leaders of this nation to live up to the ideals this country was founded on and create a more equitable future.

I hope that we all take a moment to reflect on the current issues that are trying to divide Americans and renew our commitment to Dr. King’s vision for a better future. May we reject the partisanship and hatred that has stoked the flames of division, and instead continue to fight for social and economic justice for all.

I’m inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s unwavering commitment to his faith, and his willingness to fight hatred and fear with love and compassion. These values continue to guide me in my life and throughout this campaign, and I’m reminded of his words:

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Onward,
