Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a chance to honor the life and legacy of one of America’s greatest heroes and a constant champion for democracy. However, we can’t celebrate today without also recognizing the very real threats that face our democracy. All across the country radical-right Republicans, like my opponent Marjorie Taylor Greene, have passed laws designed to make it harder for communities of color to vote. In addition to these heinous laws, they’ve pushed dangerous conspiracy theories about the results of the 2020 election that work to undermine the sanctity of our democracy. Congress has an opportunity (and obligation) to stand up to the radical-right attacks on democracy and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
America is facing a grave threat to our democracy, and this is OUR moment to defend the legacy of Martin Luther King, John Lewis, and so many others who gave everything they had to the civil rights movement. I am committed to protecting our democracy, and I’m committed to getting this bill passed once I defeat Marjorie Taylor Greene and am elected to Congress. I just need your help.
