A little over a year ago, a record number of voters — led by women of color — turned out and voted their values to demand transformative change in our country. In the days and months since, we have endured numerous attacks on our democracy and our right to vote.
In many states across the country, there has been a calculated and malicious effort to make it harder for voters to cast our ballots. Officials have purged thousands of voters from the rolls, reduced the number of polling places, put in place strict voter ID guidelines and passed ridiculous laws that prevent organizations like NDWA from supporting communities of color and making a difference when it’s time to head to the polls.
These attacks weren’t a surprise: while women of color and our communities showed our collective power, there were many who wished to slow down our hard-won progress.
Today, we hope you will honor Dr. King's legacy and take a stand to fight back against this widespread voter suppression. We are doing all we can this election season to ensure no voters are left behind. Stand with us in our fight to ensure women of color and other marginalized voices are heard at the ballot box and beyond.
Voting is but one way to imagine a future that works for domestic workers, caregivers, women of color, and immigrants. But it's important that we all remember that our votes speak for us and our values, and NO ONE has the right to silence us.
