John -
Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most renowned and influential figures in the American civil rights movement. Dr. King's work spanned decades, united coalitions, and made a monumental impact on the future of this country.
You'll hear a lot of half-truths about Dr. King today. But the peace-loving MLK touted by major corporations and conservative pundits is just a sliver of the radical change-maker he was.
Dr. King was a life-long champion of the people. From supporting a Universal Basic Income to lifting Americans out of poverty, speaking out against means-testing for public welfare programs to advocating for universal health care, Dr. King always stood on the side of progress.
That's more than we can say about many of our representatives in Congress, John. And that's definitely more than what we can say about Brad Sherman.
We deserve leaders committed to dismantling systems of oppression, not upholding them. Today, I'm recommitting myself to fighting for a Green New Deal, transformative racial and economic justice, housing equality, and a single-payer healthcare system for all.
Thank you, John.
