On this day, as we commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we reflect on his lifelong devotion to fighting injustice and inequality. His commitment to unity serves as an inspiration for us and so many others.

But we cannot have a true celebration without legislation. The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act which would expand voter rights and protections, has an uncertain fate in the Senate. Dr. King knew one of the most powerful tools to unite our nation is the right to vote, and so we ask you today to join us in demanding the Senate that they must pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

We must continue speaking up and make Dr. King’s dream a reality. We indeed have more work ahead but will not lose sight of our progress since Dr. King’s assassination.
