Friend,

Dr. King dedicated his life to ensuring that all eligible Americans—whatever our color, background, or zipcode—have equal freedom to vote and equal say in the decisions that impact our lives.

So today, as we reflect on the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we must also ask our United States Senators one simple question: Will your legacy protect or deny our freedom to vote?

In this moment, there is no greater way to honor Dr. King’s legacy than by passing the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act.

Black and brown voters in Georgia and across the country are looking to Senators to stand on the right side of history by delivering federal legislation to protect our freedom to vote.

As Dr. King wrote in his 1963 Letter from Birmingham Jail: “ I think the tragedy is that we have a Congress with a Senate that has a minority of misguided senators who will use the filibuster to keep the majority of people from even voting .”

Sadly, Dr. King’s words ring just as true today as when first written almost 60 years ago. Failure to deliver the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act will put senators on the wrong side of history .

Our democracy hangs in the balance. Anti-voter Republican lawmakers in states across the country are hard at work attempting to silence the voices of countless voters of color . In 2021 alone, 34 laws in 19 different states were enacted that restrict access to the ballot box.

The Senate must act now to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act so that every vote counts and we all have a say in our future. Every senator who fails to rise up and protect our freedom to vote will contribute to the irreversible fall of American democracy. Their legacies, and our legacy as a country, are on the line.

The country is watching . History is watching . Senators have the power—and the responsibility—to lead. We cannot allow the voices of millions of voters to be silenced. The Senate must be restored.

Call your Senators today and every day this week at 833-345-2552 to demand they honor the legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Congressman John Lewis by passing the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act—immediately.

Thank you for doing your part to honor Dr. King by joining us in this fight.

In Solidarity,

— Team Fair Fight Action
