Jack,
Today, we celebrate the legacy of a giant, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. So much has been written about him that I don’t have much to add, except to say this: we are his Dream realized.
Here at the New North Carolina Project, we take voting rights very seriously. Just like Dr. King, we see the ballot box as the great equalizer. Our mission is to empower voters of color to turn out in every election and build the dream that Dr. King envisioned, right here in North Carolina.
Today, we are holding events all week long. The best way to honor Dr. King is through action, so we’ll be going into communities of color across North Carolina and inspiring folks to become voters and use their power to actualize their own visions. It’s the best way we can think of to honor a voting rights champion, and we’d be honored if you could join us.

Dr. King once said, “Voting is the foundation stone of political action.”
He fought for a world where the votes of all people counted equally, and we are proud to continue his fight. Stone by stone, we continue to build that foundation, together.
We earnestly hope that you will join us.
In solidarity,
Dr. Aimy Steele
