This week, the Senate will take action on voting rights to secure our elections against the relentless attacks against them.
We’ve witnessed many setbacks in this fight. Hundreds of voter suppression bills have been introduced nationwide -- including in Ohio -- that make it harder for Americans to make their voices heard in our elections, especially Black and brown voters. And Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have repeatedly blocked our efforts to protect voting rights.
But today as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, we must keep in mind his words:
“Human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability.”

Progress rolls in because we make it happen. It requires people like you and me to stand up, speak out, and get involved. Because organizing, demanding progress, and working for that change are some of the most patriotic things we can do.
And that’s what our grassroots movement is all about.
Together, we’ll keep fighting for voting rights and our democratic values. We can create real and powerful change, but we need to work together to see it through and I hope I can count on you to be active and engaged in our efforts.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
