Today is MLK Day.
This year's day that observes the birthday and honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes at a time when elected officials across the country, and in our state, try to erase the spirit of what he represents and to censor our history. Sadly, some of those same politicians will quote the man himself even as they move to ban difficult but necessary discussions from our classrooms.
So on this MLK Day, we invite you to read our call for all of us to come together and learn from Dr. King and stop distorting what he stood for.

We owe our young people the truth about our history. As Dr. King put it, “Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction."
