Personally, I prefer growing seedlings over buying them, because it provides a greater variety in my garden. I can plant my own tomato or pepper varieties that are hard to come by, for example. I also have full control over how they're raised from the very beginning, which also means they're more likely to "take" when planted in the garden later.
