John, now more than ever, we pause to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and honor his life with action.
As we reflect, we must acknowledge and learn from the wrongs of our country’s past, commemorate progress made toward a more just and equitable society, and continue to fight for Dr. King’s dream of racial and economic justice in America.
A cornerstone of Dr. King’s legacy is protecting the right to vote. As we continue to fight toward his vision of equity and justice, we urge support for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act which will restore the voting protections Dr. King and so many other civil rights leaders fought so hard to secure.
Here in Connecticut, Democrats have been working to expand voting access. The Early Voting amendment will be on the ballot this November, and despite Republicans’ efforts to block no-excuse absentee balloting, the Democrats elected this year will be working to advance that as well.
In the year ahead, let us continue working together to fulfill Dr. King's dream.
