Today we remember the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A man famous for advocating racial equality and civil rights and whose activism extended to much more. From opposing the Vietnam War to promoting fair treatment for the working class, Dr. King and his allies believed in the idea that engagement in civic life, be it through picket line or ballot box, could, little by little, cure the ills of society.
He was also a man who understood that the life of an activist is one that strives for a mountaintop we may not summit in our short lifetime. We pick up where others have left off in the fight for equality and liberty so that we, in our time, can continue the struggle. As we reflect today on the civil rights movement of the past, let us see our place in that ongoing fight to bend the arc of history toward justice.
Voter Registration Begins
In that spirit of expanding the rights of others, lend us a hand as we start what will be an ongoing effort to register more voters in Morris County. We'll soon have 1000 postcards like the one shown on the left (the back has a QR Code where people can register online in NJ), and we need you to help us get them out.
Sign up today and commit to sending a max of 50 cards to new residents. You'll receive a pack of cards, stamps, and a list of addresses. All you need is a pen and some enthusiasm.
If you're doing the math, we're looking for a minimum of 20 volunteers. If we get more that's great, many hands make light work! We'll evenly distribute postcards to everyone who signs up, and you'll be asked to send a maximum of fifty cards.
