Yesterday, a Rabbi and three congregants were taken hostage by a terrorist at the Beth Israel Synagogue in Colleyville, Texas. CIJA joined Jewish Canadians in reacting with horror and concern for our fellow Jews. Upon learning that the hostages were freed uninjured, Co-Chairs of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), Joel Reitman and Jeff Rosenthal, issued a statement. 

In a letter to the United Church of Canada, Canadian Rabbis spanning the denominational spectrum condemned proposed resolutions about Israel and antisemitism under consideration for the Church’s 2022 General Council.

Now more than ever, we must join to remember the past, to build a better future for all, by supporting the World Jewish Congress’ #WeRemember social media campaign from January 20 to 27. 

Holocaust denial and distortion are dangerous and unacceptable. CIJA is actively working to make Holocaust denial an indictable offense in Canada. We know that what starts with Jews never ends with Jews and criminalizing Holocaust denial will benefit all Canadians.
